Winners should be
(I) original, experimental, exploratory and forward-looking; proposing creative ideas for future development;
(II) public-oriented, practical, eco-friendly and recyclable; proposing new urban living concepts;
(III) pioneering, dynamic, facilitative and transformative; improving the efficiency of industrial development;
(IV) influential, attracting wide international attention.
The judging panel comprises eight world-leading designers from different countries. The members of the judging panel will be announced on the official website of the Award one month before the final assessment. The Chairman of the judging panel will be elected by all members at the preliminary assessment meeting.
The Chairman of the judging panel will be responsible for convening the assessment meetings, monitoring the assessment procedure and announcing the final results.
Members of the judging panel are not allowed to enter.

All supporting units of the Shenzhen Design Week and SDA can nominate designs which will directly enter the final assessment.
Supporting units must register all nominees and submit their designs and relevant materials before 25th March 2018, or instruct nominees to complete registration and application online, and deliver works before the deadline.
Artist and communication designer, Barbara Pietrasanta is a founder and Creative Director of Anyway Communication, based in Milan.
She is also Vice-President of the Triennale Design Museum Foundation of Milan and a member of the Board of the Achille Castiglioni Foundation. In addition, she is board member of La Permanente Museum in Milan and part of Artistic Committee.
Author of the essay entitled “The neon ideogram. Communication, publicity and lifestyle in China”, she has been working on projects involving a number of Italian brands in emerging countries for many years, particularly China and India.
She is a consultant for several institutions, organisations, municipalities and italian associations. She also hold a training courses fo Italia Cina Foundation, she is a professor of Art Direction at the European Design Institute in Milan and of Visual Design at the Luchino Visconti Civic School of Cinema in Milan.
She has exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Barcelona, Lima, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, New Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Milan, Rome and Turin, as well as in many other Italian cities.
Her artistic works can be found in the Farnesina Collection in Rome, in the artistic heritage of the Province of Milan and in La Permanente Museum in Milan.
Prof. Cheng-Neng Kuan, Taiwan
In 1980, Professor Cheng-Neng Kuan earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Design (MID) from the Pratt Institute in New York.
He is currently a chair professor, served as the vice president (2008-2017) of Shih-Chien University, Taipei, Taiwan. With the aim of developing a more advanced design curriculum in Taiwan, he founded the Department of Industrial Design, in 1992. He served as department chair until 1999. Moreover, Professor Kuan founded the School of Design in 1997 and had served as the dean from 1997 to 2004 and as the founding director of the Graduate Institute of Industrial Design from 1998 to 2007. Professor Kuan had also held the position of the 16th chairman of the Board of China Industrial Designers Association (CIDA), Taiwan. His fields of expertise include design strategy and management as well as design theory and creation.
Having published various books on design and over 180 research papers and articles, he is an active member of design juries in his home country and internationally. He is a consultant to major enterprises on product development and design strategy.
David Grossman is an environmental graphic designer and partner of Daedalos Design Studio in Tel Aviv. Also a partner of Israel Design Works, he has been involved in the development of the Chinese design industry infrastructure. David is President of the Israel Community of Designers—Israel’s multidisciplinary professional design organization and is a founder of Vital,Tel Aviv Center for Design Studies (1987) and of the Graphic Design Department of Shenkar College in Israel (2000). He has played a key role as organizer, editor, lecturer and juror for international design festivals, conferences and exhibitions, catalogs and annuals.
David served as ico-D’s Treasurer and President between 1995–2003.
The founder and designer Dirk Schumann is a member of the Red Dot award Jury since 2006 to present(2017) and also served as a juror at the Red Dot Concept Award in Singapore 2015, 2016, 2017.

Elisha Tal is a designer, inventor, educator and founder of I2D, a leading Industrial Design firm that specializes in innovation- driven product development.
Over the last 25 years Elisha has worked on many breakthrough projects with top companies such as Dell, Palm, SanDisk, Pepsi, Soda Stream, Medtronic, Samsung, Hisense and many others. His extensive experience ranges from the sophisticated medical instruments to mass-produced toys, electronics, home appliances and more conceptually oriented projects.
Elisha completed a degrees in both Physics and Math before his studies in Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy. He moved to Silicon Valley where he served in various design -leadership posts as part of several startup ventures and worked in the famed design agency IDEO where he designed the award- winning PalmV.
His work has been granted many patents, featured in many design publications and has been exhibited at the MAD Museum NY, the Gardiner Museum Toronto, La Triennale di Milano, Museum of Moscow and the Israeli Museum.
For his work Elisha has received numerous international design awards including, the Red Dot award, and the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design® award, I.D. Magazine and others. Elisha was a partner in the IDEO Israeli branch and is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy.
Elisha is a frequent speaker at international design conferences including the BoDW in Hong Kong and the Design Week in Guangzhou, and serves as a Judge in the Israel Design Award and is a member of the Design Committee of the Ministry of Finance on industrial design grants.
Freeman Lau Siu Hong
Born in 1958, Freeman Lau is a renowned artist and designer in Hong Kong. Freeman is currently the Founder of KL&K Creative Strategics, the Vice Chairman for the Design Alliance Asia (tDA Asia), a Director of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), and the Secretary General of Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations (FHKDA). These years, he is devoted in promoting the design industry. As the secretary general of the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations, Mr. Lau co-curated the 1st (2014) & 2nd (2016) "HK-SZ Design Biennale” with 39 design associations from Hong Kong and Shenzhen in various design disciplines including graphic design, new media design, fashion design, interior design, industrial design, etc. The success of the biennale is owing to the full support from different sectors in the society.
Since 1984, Freeman has won over 300 design awards and his design profession is developed in several fields including books, graphic design, packaging and poster design and so on. His most recent design achievements include “The Best Asian Designer” at the 2014 Asian Designers’ Invitational Exhibition in Korea endorsed by ico-D (2014), “Grand Award of DFA Design for Asia Awards” (2015), and “iF Design Award” (2016).

Industrial Designer and Design Strategist Sertac Ersayin has participated as a jury member at various national and international design competitions such as IF Design Award / Hannover ( 5 times ), G Mark / Tokyo ( 2 times ), Design Management Europe / Eindhoven , High Speed Train Design Competition / China and Best Design Project Award / India and following more than 200 national and international competitions.
He is the Executive Board Member of Design Turkey, Design Evaluation System since 2008 and President of Industrial Designers Society of Turkey since 2014. He has received numerous international awards on design and innovation in Germany, Italy, Netherland, Portugal, Turkey and Korea. He previously worked as an industrial designer and design director for one of Fortune 500 companies in Istanbul, Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He is now founder and manager of Istanbul based Design and Strategy Development Company, re/form/ist. His main product design portfolio includes furnitures, ceramics and tiles, sanitaryware products and bathroom products , white goods , household appliances, heaters, public products, home textile and consumer goods.
Tapani Hyvönen (born June 6, 1947) is a Finnish designer and founder and board member of ED-Design Ltd. in Turku, Finland.
Born in Sotkamo, Finland, Tapani Hyvönen studied industrial design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, now part of the Aalto University) and graduated in 1974. He started his own design agency, Destem Ltd., in 1976. In 1990, Destem merged with Ergonomia Design to form ED-Design Ltd., today one of the biggest product design agencies in the Nordic area.
For design assignments mostly from the Finnish electronics industry, Hyvönen has been honoured with the National Art & Design Award 1984, Industrial Designer of the Year award in 1991, and the Pro Finnish Design award the following year.
Tapani Hyvönen has held important positions with organisations such as the University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH), Ornamo, Design Forum Finland, and Icsid, where he was member of the Executive Board between 1999 and 2003. His jury memberships include competitions such as the Finnish Design Management Award, Pro Finnish Design Award, and the Fennia Prize. Internationally, Hyvönen has served in juries for the NID Business World Design Excellence Award (India), the Osaka Design Competition (Japan), Adolf Loos Staatspreis Design, Austria The Red Dot awards (Germany and Singapore), and Design for Asia Award, (Hong Kong).
